ez publish / technical manual / 3.8 / installation / normal installation

Caution: This documentation is for eZ Publish legacy, from version 3.x to 5.x.

Normal installation

The normal installation method is the most common and recommended way of deploying eZ publish. It requires a system which already has the proper environment installed, most notably a web server and a database. The necessary requirements are explained in detail within the next section. A typical normal installation process consists of the following steps:

  • Setting up / creating a database
  • Downloading a packaged eZ publish distribution
  • Unpacking the eZ publish distribution
  • Initiating and going through the web based setup wizard

Once the web based setup wizard has completed, eZ publish will be ready for use.

  • Translating the docs?

    Hi

I'm really new to ezP and wonder why there is no translation of this documentation available (for example in german).
Wouldn't it be easy to set up something like a wiki, where volunteers can translate the original doc into other languages step by step?
I think there are a lot of people in this community, who would spend some time translating texts and such.

    Greetings,
    Robbie
    • WAY too complicated

Looks like this COULD be a pretty cool tool, but your installation instructions are horrible and this is way too complicated.

You should try REAL easy stems like.

      1) Unzip and Upload all files to a specified folder on your webserver (ie. ezpub)
      2) Configure your mySQL with supplied script
      3) Run setup as follows. from a browser type http://www.yoursite.com/ezpub/index.php
      etc etc

Found another CMS utility that works fine.

Too bad you didn't take the time to read a little bit - your loss.

I just downloaded the zip file, and put it on the site and ran the SETUP SCRIPT (just like you said you wanted) and it all worked perfectly fine - took about 10 minutes.

I admit the whole interface is too complicated for simple users and it seem like there will be a pretty steep learning curve and for the targeted users in my requirements I think it is too much BUT it looks like a great system with a lot of flexibility and for other sites I will definitely consider it (I haven't given up on it yet for my current needs).

Hi, translations only exist as contributions here:

The only thing missing from the automated setup wizard is that you have tro create your dedicated database by hand (using eg phpmyadmin or a command line client). All the rest is taken care for you.
  • Installation

    Hello,

If anyone has any experience or advice it would be great:

I will be doing a new install on a server that has a website already running, and I have some coldfusion, asp and html running on that site. Will the software still recognize that it has to install? Should I just go directly to the folder in my URL will that work?
